The V8 Pilot made its bow in 1947 as the largest model in Ford’s British range. Essentially a pre-war American sedan the Pilot made its name as a tough, comfortable large saloon. When Autocar magazine road-tested a Pilot in June 1948 a top speed of 82.5 mph was achieved with acceleration time to 60 mph of 20 seconds. No wonder the V8 Pilot was a popular choice with police forces.
