This car’s main claim to fame was that it features in the TV series ‘The Saint’. The series producer originally wanted an E-Type Jaguar, but Jaguar could not supply one in the tight time scale. This Bertone built 262 coupe was identical mechanically to the 264 GL saloon of the period. It had a lowered roof line and only two doors, V-6 engine, 140 bhp and no RHD available. A total of 6,600 cars were built.

Volvo’s first sports car made its public debut at the Brussels Motor Show in 1955. It used PV 444 mechanical components in a tubular frame with a glass fibre body shell. It had a slightly tuned B14 engine boasting 70 bhp which promised a sporty accent. Styling, being ahead of it’s time, did not catch on at all with the public and sales were low. Production was closed down in March 1957 with only 67 cars built.

Virtually the same mechanics as the saloon but with this large loading area, this model can safely be said to have started the Volvo Estate success. Exports were great and even right hand drive was available. A very good engine the B18, good road holding and the other usual Volvo features made this a much more modern car than it’s forerunner the Duett.

Thousands of small businesses really loved this sturdy and versatile estate. It had a 1.4 litre engine with 40 bhp and separate frame and could take you really any place with a full load. Duett means ‘two in one’ and thus it became - used during the week as a workhorse with great loading capacity and at weekends as a family car seating five. Volvo stopped production in 1969.

Roomier, quicker and of course more up-to-date than its ancestor, the PV444 from 1947. Much loved for its sturdiness and reliability, many were sorry to see it go in 1965 after 244,000 were built. With its 4-cylinder, 1.8 litre, 60 - 95 bhp it also proved to be a competitive rally car. Today a real cult car - the Swedish PV Club alone has 5,000 members.
